KinoPlasmat: Originally, this type lenses were developed for the motion picture photography as you can recognize the name "Kino" on its mane. Because the high shutter speed was demanded for the motion picture photography, high speed lenses were designed.

There were lenses that have various focal length for motion picture, they converted them to the still photography. Because the back focal length was a bit short for adapting SLR cameras, they redesigned for the rangefinder cameras.

At that time, there were no high speed lens for Leica A(I), camera trading companies adapted KinoPlasmat or Zeiss Biotar for it. We now rarely find those LeicaA(I)s with KinoPlasmat. There are 50mm and 75mm lenses for Leica screw and Contax C mount.

The 50mm lens has limitation for using up to 135 size by a negative power element in the system for correcting spherical aberration. The 75mm lens instead covers postcard size or 6×4.5. 90mm covers up to 6×9. A famous Ernostar 85mm/F1.8 coly covers 6×45 for a comparison. we would like to perform a side by side comparison test this lens with Zeiss Sonnar (50mm F1,5) or Biotar (75mm F1,5) in someday.

The picutre of KinoPlasmat is unique. You may find a rounded bokeh in the background and some flares. It has a very unique picture quality with 3D like image. Please look at US Patent application in the left. Now we would like to introduce a series of Kinoplasmat lenses. Please enter from the entrance below about the page of each Kinoplasmat.
