Hugomeyer Co. was founded in Gorlits, Germany in 1898 . They initially designed and produced Anastigmats and Aristostigmats (F7.7 and F5.5) in four elements configuration. In 1911, they acquired Shule Unt flyer Beck (uncertain in English) company. They revealed their most popular lens design ever made Trioplan in 1916. It is well known that Dr. Paul Dudolph who had designed Planar and Tessar joined in the company after he retired Carl Zeiss in 1918 and he designed several lenses at Meyer Co. This indicates that the Meyer Co. was well reputed large company at that time. Unfortunately, Meyer Co. had dismantled and seized by Soviet Union after World War II. The name of the company had changed to VEB Gorlitz precise optical factory. It was merged to VEB Pentacon in 1968. After German reunification in 1990, VEB Pentacon was disbanded followed by the company became independent and produced 5 prime lenses, 28mm F2,8, 50mm F1,8, 135mm F2,8, 300mm F4 and 500mm F5,6 as well as one zoom lens. They no longer produce those lenses but manufacture lenses for glasses. @Meyer had been producing Plasmat type lenses for long time and acquired high reputation in US ane Europ by their performance. However in Japan to the contrary, camera enthusiast derided them to "Bad-Meyer" or "Soft-Meyer". This was because dealers at that time tried to sell the cameras with cheaper prise tag. So, they sold the cameras with Trioplan (triplet type, F2,8 or F2,9) which has many limitation in design by cost, angle of view or F-number. The dealer terminated importing lenses from Meyer due to above bad impression by Japanese users. We believe that some Trioplans such as normal focal length F3,5 and F4,5 and 100mm F2,8 which limits its angle of view within reasonable range are good. After WWII, Carl Zeiss Jena has been producing high-end lenses while Meyer produces cheaper lenses in VEB Pentacon. This could be another reason that Meyer seems the second brand lens. @We believe that those lenses such as Trioplan, Orestogon, Primotar, Primoplan, Megon, Doppel Anastigmat, Sats Plasmart, Dopple Plasmart and Makro Plasmart are indeed excellent. @One of the ultimate lens for those who likes Kusedama (lens that produce unusual or abnormal pictures) is Kino Plasmat that remained some aberrations for multi dimensional expression or better texture. Unfortunately, we could find very limited number of Kino Plasmat lens in the market due to its limited production. Here, we are happy to introduce the true jewel of lens among other ordinary lenses. Please enjoy!
